Virtual Assistant for reading images for people with visual impairments. Individual Study!
Hi, I’m Dan Patzelt and one of my concerns is to help people with low vision.
So I imagine the THAT’S a system comprised of support, headphones, tablet or smartphone connected to an application that provides access to a database of resources made accessible for blind.
In our previous projects we noticed students need individual assistance to learn and this it is a challenge for teachers. I imagined it easy and actual solution that could provide autonomy and solve two of the biggest problems of the visually impaired peoples, those being: 1. Assistance to reading 2D and 3D images and 2. The lack of a database whit Pictures made accessible for them.
With Orange Foundation Romania we have built a prototype, which we tested in seven schools for the blind. Built-in camera is oriented towards material that supports 3D printing. THAT’S software enables playing of audio and positioning information stored in a database, to make available the image to the blind reader. Simultaneously, the student feels contour line and listen to the virtual narrator.
So the experience of reading assisted an image can be replicated anywhere, anytime and as many times as needed.
THAT’S enables individual study through access to a database of information and images accessible to disabled persons, which with the help of the community will gradually develop.
I opened a campaign of crowdfunding inDemand to complete iOS applications, application development and other operating systems, the server plus develop content specifically one of our dreams is „The first tactile illustrated story book, downloadable”
The project costs for iOS system are divided as follows:
- 40,000Euro iOS
- 10,000Euro server
- 15,000Euro management
Project team consists of four people with whom I collaborated on previous projects and accessibility of public spaces (+ pictures).
Came along and help us to make this dream as soon as possible: individual access to images for blind and individual study.
In the name of millions of blind people, who will benefit from your gesture, thank you!

The story of THAT’S – build images – image recognition software for the blind
The project THAT’S initially started from a physical and personal need in events for visually impaired people.
After research methods and educational offers, especially after contact with companies that produce products of accessibility, we wanted to come up with another approach in the special education market, a simple and accessible one.
Imagine, any assistive device costs 1.000$ and is doing only one thing. Now imagine how all this device’s could be replaced by a simple Smartphone that a visually impaired people already have in his pocket.
So together with blind teachers from special schools in Romania and the support of Orange Foundation we managed to prove our innovative solution.
After searching through dozens of software companies, partners how can realise an image recognition software, after speaking with the Giants of industry who told us that the real budget is 10 times bigger than initial, we managed to finally find a benevolent partner.
A partner that made a functional DEMO, partner who believed in the project’s overall functionality and invested over 3 times more in software development than we were able to pay.
Now that we’ve demonstrated that our project is operational and that our customers want it, we start looking for other funding to make our project functional and millions of people can use it for free. Now we write crowdfunding campaigns and seeking partners interested in increasing life quality of people with sight disabilities worldwide.
We are confident that we can raise the money to make freely available the browser image editing module and reader applications on multiple operating systems.
Once the system is integrated, a child will be able to print at home a tactile book, hundred’s of student’s can learn math, geography, etc and million’s of adult’s find their job easier.

$ 1,000 piece / free
only those who have money to invest in education / for all other smartphone is not unusual or webcam
not only for blind people, it can be used in education and other social CATEGORY (normal children in kindergarten, autism, etc.)
Games can be design, interactive imaging.
What this means in Numbers*?
100,000 children could see a tactile book made by a parent at home
1.000.000 people can see a picture book designed by a volunteer
10.000.000 people can use teaching material developed by a teacher
100,000,000 people around the globe can see a book made accessible by publishers
1,000,000,000 files will fill the online library accessible to disabled images, freely available to any interested blind person on the planet to see images.
280 million people from around the globe do not have to give 1000$ on a system (device + software) they can use the webcam and mobile devices they already have, or that it deserves and buy because this is the future Image Recognition

No….” Top 10 amazing gadgets that are helping the blind see ” , No, just free software.

Ce deosebeste THATS de alte sisteme?
Alte sisteme / THATS
- hardware / software
- peste 1.000$ bucata / gratuit
